HomeThe Firm

A small firm that behaves like a large one.

PARA & CO. was set up to give owner‑run businesses the standard of audit, tax and advisory work usually reserved for companies with a full finance department — without the distance that comes with one.

The founder

CA. Ratan Agarwalla

FCA, M.Com., CCA (ICAI), CFXTM (ICAI)

A Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, with post‑qualification certifications in concurrent audit and forensic accounting & fraud detection from the ICAI. He signs every audit report and reviews every significant tax position the firm takes.

Most of his work sits at the point where the books meet the business — helping owners see what the accounts are actually saying about margins, working capital and risk, and then making sure the compliance record supports that story rather than contradicting it.

“A clean set of books is not a compliance formality. It is the only honest mirror a business owner has.”

What the practice runs on

Four principles we do not negotiate on.

They cost us work occasionally. They are also the reason clients hand us their group companies once they have tested us with one.

01

Independence before convenience

An audit opinion is worth nothing if the client can predict it. Where we audit, we do not simultaneously make the management decisions we are meant to examine — and we say so before an engagement starts, not after.

02

Write it down, then file it

Every position that could be questioned gets a working paper explaining the section relied on and the evidence held. Three years later, when a notice arrives, the answer is already on file.

03

Say the difficult thing early

If a structure is aggressive, a claim is weak or a deadline has already been missed, you hear it from us in the first meeting. Bad news does not improve with age, and neither do penalties.

04

One law is never the whole picture

Income tax, GST, the Companies Act and FEMA all look at the same transaction differently. We check a position against all of them before recommending it, because a saving in one place is often a liability in another.

The people

Who will actually handle your file.

Small team, named responsibilities. You will know who is working on your engagement and who reviews it.

Who we work with

Businesses where the owner still signs the cheques.

Our work concentrates where decisions are quick and consequences are personal. That shapes how we communicate: directly, and to the person who carries the risk.

Private limited companies

Manufacturing, trading, services and professional companies needing statutory audit, ROC compliance and year‑round tax planning under one engagement.

Firms & proprietors

Partnership firms, LLPs and proprietary concerns where the accounts, the GST position and the owner’s personal tax are effectively one conversation.

Scaling companies

Businesses that have outgrown a book‑keeper but cannot yet justify a CFO — the natural home for our Cloud CFO retainer.

NRIs & overseas owners

Non‑residents with Indian income, property or shareholdings who need residency, DTAA and repatriation handled together rather than in pieces.

Trusts & societies

Charitable trusts, societies and Section 8 companies requiring audit, 12A / 80G registration and the reporting that keeps exemption intact.

Professionals

Doctors, consultants, architects and agencies — presumptive versus regular taxation, advance tax discipline and clean personal filings.

Reach

Three offices, one standard of work.

The practice is headquartered in Kolkata, opposite South City Mall, with associate offices at Malda and Khagaria. Documents move digitally, reviews happen on call or video, and we travel when a matter genuinely needs someone in the room.

  • Kolkata — head office; audit, corporate compliance and advisory teams.
  • Malda — North Bengal coverage for tax, registration and audit support.
  • Khagaria — Bihar region coverage for compliance and filing work.
